Mid-Tier Accountancy Firm


About This Role

A well-established mid-tier firm is seeking a Tax Disputes Director to lead their growing investigations and disputes practice. You will manage high-value HMRC enquiries, tax litigation matters, and provide strategic advice to clients facing complex compliance challenges.

This is a newly created leadership role as the firm invests in growing its disputes capability. You will have genuine autonomy to shape the practice, a strong existing client base to draw from, and a direct path to partnership within 2 years.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex HMRC enquiries and Code of Practice investigations across all tax heads
  • Manage tax litigation matters including First-tier and Upper Tribunal cases
  • Provide strategic advisory support on voluntary disclosures and tax risk management
  • Develop the disputes practice through business development and thought leadership
  • Mentor and develop a team of managers and senior consultants

Requirements

Essential

  • CTA qualified or solicitor/barrister with tax specialism
  • 8+ years experience in tax disputes, investigations, or controversy
  • Experience managing HMRC Code of Practice 8 or 9 cases
  • Track record of successful dispute resolution outcomes

Desirable

  • Tribunal advocacy or litigation management experience
  • Experience with cross-border investigations or HMRC's FIS
  • Business development track record
